Carers UK vision for NHS 10 Year Health Plan

Read Carers UK vision transforming how the NHS supports unpaid carers

A fresh new approach to supporting unpaid carers:

On 4th September 2025, Carers UK published a new report detailing unpaid carers' experience of the NHS in England and their vision for transforming how the NHS interacts with and supports unpaid carers through the delivery of the NHS 10 Year Plan.

The report sets out what carers would like to see in the future. In 2025, Imago supported over 20,000 all-age carers. Our approach includes targeted identification through healthcare systems touchpoints such as ensuring 'Do you look after someone' is routinely asked at medical appointments with carer flags added to referrals, and we work closely with healthcare professionals to embed carers' expertise in decision making around the health and social care of the person they support.

We support Carers UK vision of more recognition, better support and stronger involvement for carers with the NHS. Carers need to be identified, respected, supported and included.
