Carers Week 8th-14th June 2026

We're proud to be supporting Carers Week 2026

The theme for this year's campaign is "Building Carer Friendly Communities," which focuses on ensuring that unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and supported in their local areas. The campaign will be brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations taking action to ensure more communities understand, recognise, and empower carers.

Who is a Carer?

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older. It isn’t someone who volunteers or is employed to provide support.

There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled. That means approximately 8% to 9% of the UK population provides regular, unpaid care to a friend or family member who is ill, frail, disabled, or has mental health and addiction issues.

Carer friendly communities are places, spaces, services and community groups where unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and valued. They make support part of everyday life ensuring carers get the opportunities and help they need.

How does Imago support carers?

Last year, Imago supported over 17,000 carers of all ages. We support unpaid adult carers in Kent (Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley and Swale), the City of London and Lewisham, and young carers in Kent, East Sussex and the London boroughs of Bexley, Greenwich, Havering, Lewisham and Southwark.
