Some of our young carers have kindly shared their stories about caring, school, friendships and family

We aim to ensure that all young people referred to our service have the best possible chance at being able to access the same opportunities as their peers. We support them to build their confidence and resilience in their caring role.

Aaliyah's Story

Hi! My name is Aaliyah and I’m 11 years old. I live in a flat with just my mum and I help take care of her because she has something called fibromyalgia. That means she’s in pain a lot and gets really tired, even from doing small things like walking or standing for too long.

Ryan's story

Hey, I’m Ryan. I’m 17 and in my final year of school,
getting ready for my A-levels. It’s a stressful time for most people my age, but for me, it’s even more intense because I’m also a young carer for my mum.

Lily's story

Hi, I’m Lily and I’m 13 years old. I live with my mum, my little brother Max, and our cat, Whiskers. Max is 8 and he has cerebral palsy, which means he needs help with lots of things like getting dressed, moving around, and sometimes even eating.

Jake's story

Hi, I’m Jake. I’m 12 years old and I live with my dad near the sea. It’s just the two of us now, ever since my mum passed away a few years ago. My dad has something called multiple sclerosis (MS), which means his body doesn’t always do what he wants it to.

Meg's story

Hello!! My name is Meg, I’m 15 years old and I live in
the seaside town of Hastings. I’m the eldest of three children in my family, and for the past year, I’ve taken on the role of a young carer for my younger brother, who is 9 years old.
